Liz & Ben’s All Day Wedding Package
I put a lot of work and preparation into every wedding to make sure that it is perfect and that everything runs smoothly on the day. I can spend up to 20 hours of preparation on an all-day wedding and then be working 17 hours on the day itself. Here is the planning and details for Liz & Ben’s excellent Rhinefield wedding which shows what difference hiring a quality DJ can make for your big day.
I had an initial meeting with Liz & Ben at the hotel to discuss their plans and talk through some options. I gave Liz a few suggestions and some options of music for the ceremony. They decided to book me for the whole day and wanted a bespoke package so we had a second meeting at my house nearer the day where we went through everything in detail, from the timings and the music to special moments happening in the evening.
Liz sent me a comprehensive list of music that they wanted for the day split into music for the ceremony, background music for the wedding breakfast and music for the evening reception. I spent several hours organising it into the best playable order…tracks that were not so good for dancing I played for the arrival and during the buffet and the big dance and party tracks for the peak times. I downloaded any of the tracks that I didn’t have from itunes.
Before the day itself I programmed the uplighting to complement their wedding colours and designed two wedding monograms on photoshop and printed them off ready for projecting.
I also wrote a timetable, checklist and names of all of the key people for myself to make sure everything runs smoothly as there is a lot to do and remember.
The Big Day
It’s a beautiful sunny day and I drive to the venue at 9.30am. I arrive at the venue and set up a discrete sound system on the balcony ready for the ceremony in the Grand Hall. I also uplight the impressive fireplace to complement their Ivory and Burgundy colour scheme. I use a “Welcome to Liz & Ben’s Wedding” monogram projected onto the red carpet.
Liz is introduced into the room for the processional by the Toastmaster and I play Canon in D Major at the right volume to give this very special moment impact. Liz looks beautiful in her dress!
Liz and Ben had a moving ceremony with a couple of lovely poems. I played orchestral versions of “Halo” and “Only Girl In The” World during the signing of the register and “Arrival Of The Queen Of Sheeba” for the recessional to big cheers and lots of emotion as Ben & Liz walked out as husband and wife!
The Champagne Reception
It was a beautiful day so the champagne reception was being held in the gardens. I put a battery powered speaker outside with an ipod for a great soundtrack while the photographs were being taken which created the perfect atmosphere.
The Wedding Breakfast
While everybody was outside I set up 12 uplighters in the Kings Room ready for the evening reception. I then moved the monogram projector to project the welcome message onto the wall in the Grand Hall which had now been transformed from the ceremony room to the wedding breakfast room and looked absolutely stunning. Richard and the staff had done an amazing job in record time.
Liz and Ben were professionally announced into the room by Michael the Toastmaster who encouraged everybody to make lots of noise for the memorable grand entrance!
I played Liz and Ben’s selected background music during the wedding breakfast while setting up my equipment in the Kings Room ready for the evening reception.
The Early Evening
After the lovely wedding breakfast, cutting the cake and speeches everybody headed outside as it was such a lovely evening. I set the battery speaker and ipod back up outside and played music in the gardens for the early part of the evening. There was also a hog roast and a bucking bronco which would be going until 9.00pm.
While everybody was outside I changed the monogram in the monogram projector to include their married initial and projected it onto the dancefloor.
Everybody was outside until 9.00pm, and I was in the Kings Room playing background music for when people came in for drinks. I set the fireplace uplighting in the Grand Hall to a slow colour change that looked really good as a backdrop to the buffet table. The plan was to have the first dance after the buffet.
The First Dance
I gave a big introduction to Mr & Mrs Mansbridge for the first dance…there was lots of cheering from family and friends as Ben and Liz took to the floor to “Christina Perri’s, A Thousand Years” for a very special emotional moment. The uplighting was set to complement their colour scheme and I projected a personalised laser message on the wall over their heads behind them. The lighting made a great backdrop for the photos.
The Big Party
It was then non stop dancing until midnight… I mixed up Liz & Ben’s requests with other big tracks to keep a full dancefloor and party atmosphere. There were lots of charts early on with some 90’s dance classics, a few cheesy requests for the lads in the last hour and some rousing singalong anthems to raise the roof.
The guests had lots of energy and some great dance moves and helped to make it a brilliant night, one that Liz and Ben will never forget. I used my powerful scanners as spotlights to highlight the bride and groom during some key moments like bouncing to “Don’t Stop Believing”, rocking to “Living On A Prayer” and in the middle of the wedding circle to “Time Of My Life”.
Liz and Ben were so pleased and both thanked me for a fantastic night just before disappearing down the wedding archway to “Unconditionally” while three cheers were ringing out from their guest. The end of a magical day in a lovely venue surrounded by your closest family and friends. What more could you ask for! That is why I love my job.
My night hasn’t finished yet…it takes 1 hour 45 minutes to clear down the equipment from two rooms, a 40 minute drive home and get to bed at 3.00am. Phew!! I cannot get too comfortable as I am up in four and a half hours for my sons football tournament.
